Americans Hate Surveillance, Love Privacy: Report
Americans are deeply troubled by surveillance, data collection and the
security of their data that's held by government agencies and private
companies. The combined results of two Pew surveys suggest that the vast
majority consider it important to be in control of their information.
Eighty-eight percent of the respondents didn't want someone to watch or
listen to them without their permission.

Smartphones Can't Be Trusted to Run Our Lives
There is so much buzz around the smartphone becoming the remote control
for our lives. Enough already! While the promise is enticing, there is a
dark side to this story that is never talked about. After reading this,
see if you are still convinced. Don't get me wrong -- I am as excited as
everyone else around the future potential for the smartphone. However,
something happened to me last week.

Popcorn Time Offers Smooth-as-Butter Streaming
Popcorn Time, known as the "Netflix for Pirates," has introduced a
browser-based service that lets users play streaming videos without
having to download anything. The videos play on the company's servers.
However, the browser-based service does not include a built-in virtual
private network, a feature of the downloadable Popcorn Time app. Most of
the videos stream in HD.

Xactly: From Transaction to Process
It is subtle, but in the spring conferences I see a pattern emerging
around the importance of process. Admittedly, my analysis in this case
is less than scientific, and I have no statistics to support my idea,
but I my instinct says a trend toward process is beginning. Two
conferences that support my contention include Xactly and Zuora, both of
which are taking place this week in San Francisco.
