Apple's big iPhone event happens Sept. 12. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 2017 By Darrell Etherington

Apple sets the date for the big iPhone reveal, Star Wars celebrates rampant consumerism, and tech companies oppose possible DACA repeal. All that and more in The Daily Crunch for September 1, 2017.

1. Apple's iPhone 8 event is happening September 12

Apple will host its annual iPhone reveal event in Cupertino at its brand new Steve Jobs Theater on September 12 – which is less than two weeks away.

The big star will be the new premium iPhone, which reports suggest could have a nearly bezel-free OLED display. Expect more, though, including updated versions of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, as well as a new Apple Watch with LTE and a new 4K Apple TV.

2. Happy Force Friday

It's Force Friday! That basically means that it's a day Star Wars goes bonkers with its toy lineup ahead of the holiday shopping season. There was actually a ton of cool stuff revealed, including new Sphero remote-controlled droid toys. The only good war is a Star War.

3. Amazon, Facebook, Google and others show support for Dreamers program

Trump looks primed to stop the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, per reports, and now FWD.us has issued a letter in support of it, co-signed by top tech industry CEOs from across the industry.

4. Spotify's video and podcast lead departs

I only found out recently that Spotify even had video content, so it's not super surprising that the company's head of video and podcasts is leaving the company. This is probably part of getting the business get ready to go public.

5. Nest has a big announcement on September 20

Nest has a big event planned for September 20, which is surprising since it just announced a new smart thermostat. It'll apparently have much more to reveal – the invitation suggests this could be some kind of home entertainment device, maybe even an Android TV box?

6. Windows 10 Fall Creators Update launched October 17

Microsoft will release its next major Windows 10 update on October 17. The update has support for mixed reality headsets built in, which is probably its splashiest feature, and device makers are already showing off their future visors.

7. Podcast Friday!

TechCrunch's Equity and Original Content podcasts are available as of today, which is good news for the holiday weekend. Fill your weekend ears with our sweet, sonorous voices.
