Instagram's founders are leaving Facebook, the iPhone XS Max may be outselling its cheaper sibling and Google adds new capabilities to Image Search. Here's your Daily Crunch for September 25, 2018.

1. Why Instagram's founders are resigning: independence from Facebook weakened

Eight years after launching Instagram and six years after selling it to Facebook, Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger are leaving the company.

Apparently, they did not give a reason for their departure when they informed the company that they're resigning. But according to TechCrunch's sources, tension had mounted this year between Instagram and Facebook's leadership regarding Instagram's autonomy.

2. iPhone XS Max is reportedly dramatically outselling the XS

In a note posted by MacRumors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that the 6.5-inch handset sold three to four times as well as the XS during its inaugural weekend.

3. India's budget hotel startup OYO raises $1B for international growth

OYO, which was founded in 2013, aggregates budget hotels and hostels in India, ensuring that they include minimum standards such as clean sheets, hot showers and free WiFi. It has since expanded into other kinds of lodgings and use cases.

4. China splits the internet while the U.S. dithers

Eric Schmidt, the former chairman of Alphabet, said last week at a private event in San Francisco, "I think the most likely scenario now is not a splintering, but rather a bifurcation into a Chinese-led internet and a non-Chinese internet led by America."

5. Google Lens is coming to Google Image Search to help you figure out what you're seeing

In a search for "nursery", you might see a crib you want to buy. With the existing search interface, finding that exact model of crib with nothing but that image might prove challenging. Tap the new Lens button, however, and Google will throw all of its computer vision chops at the image to identify it.

6. LinkedIn steps into business intelligence with the launch of Talent Insights

This is LinkedIn's first real foray into business intelligence, the branch of enterprise analytics aimed at helping execs make more informed business decisions.

7. The 7 most important announcements from Microsoft Ignite

A new open data initiative, a cloud version of Windows, AI-powered Office upgrades and more from Microsoft's big event.
