Today's Story Highlights

It's Time for Comcast to Get Off the Wireless Fence
Comcast tried to give wireless a go several years ago. It failed. It
pulled out of wireless, sold its spectrum and was done. Now, wireless
has expanded and changed, and competitors like AT&T's U-verse and
DirecTV are using wireless to deliver television programming. I'll bet
Comcast now wishes it never sold off its wireless spectrum. So, what can
we expect from the company going forward?

American Bookworms Still Love Paper
The death of the printed book appears to have been greatly exaggerated.
Nearly three quarters of participants in a recent Pew Research Center
study said they had read a book in the last year, largely on paper. Of
the more than 1,500 American adults who said they'd read a book in the
last 12 months, nearly two thirds had read a print book. That's more
than twice the number who had read an e-book.

Gryphon SVP Eric Esfahanian: Accuracy Is Paramount
It's surprising how much inaccurate data lives in many CRM systems,
observed Eric Esfahanian, SVP of Gryphon Networks. "CRM is naturally a
good source for analytics and sales intelligence if the data that lives
within your CRM is automated, accurate, and something that you can
reliably make decisions from," he said, and the key to accuracy is
automation.

That Hissing Sound Is the Last Bit of Air Leaking From Apple's Balloon
Apple used to guard details about a new iPhone more closely than Fort
Knox, but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. The shift has been
glaring with the iPhone 7, slated for introduction on Wednesday. It's
widely believed that the new iPhone has no headphone jack. Sound is
piped to the user through a set of EarPods that connect to the phone
through its Lightning port or a dongle.

Google's Russian Android Appeal Falls Flat
A Russian appeals court has rejected Google's appeal of a $6.75 million
fine regulators imposed for anticompetitive behavior -- that is, for
forcing mobile device vendors to put Google Play apps on the main
screens of devices using the Android operating system. The Ninth
Arbitration Appeal Court handed down its ruling last month, confirming
the decision of Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service.

Harlequin Romances Customers
I recently read a user story about how Harlequin -- a publisher of
romance novels -- keeps its customers loyal. It has embraced several
ideas that work really well, including emphasizing a consciousness of
customer loyalty, keeping things simple, and focusing on personalizing
relationships and engagement. Consciousness is relatively easy, but
someone high on the org chart has to promote it.

Google Fiber's Long, Tough Road Is Full of Twists and Turns
Alphabet has been facing significant roadblocks in expanding Google
Fiber into new U.S. cities, in part due to significant competitive and
legal challenges from incumbent broadband providers like AT&T and
Comcast. The companies currently are embroiled in a dispute over access
to utility poles in Nashville, Tennessee, and the city council is
scheduled to vote Tuesday on a controversial proposal.

Feds Warn States to Batten Down Hatches Following Election System Attacks
The FBI has launched investigations into malicious cyberattacks on the
electronic election infrastructures in Illinois and Arizona, and federal
officials last month warned states to take steps to protect their
systems as the presidential campaign heats up, according to reports. The
attacks, dating back to June, led to the illegal download of information
on more than 200,000 Illinois voters.

Echo Owners May Get Their Own Kind of Music
Amazon is planning two music subscription services, according to rumors
that began circulating last week. One is a $10 a month offering that is
similar to Spotify and Apple Music, and the other is a $4-$5 a month
cut-rate service available only on Amazon's Echo device. Amazon
reportedly wants to launch both in September, but it has yet to finalize
deals with major music labels and publishers.

CFPB Report: Consumers Have Bones to Pick With Banks
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Tuesday released its August
complaint snapshot, which indicates that consumers across the country
have been filing a large number of complaints about access to banking
services. Further, many consumers complained that when they tried to
open new accounts, they were ambushed with negative reports previously
not provided to them.
