Microsoft kicks off E3. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, JUNE 11 2018 By Anthony Ha

Microsoft announces a new Halo game, Ford has big plans for tech in Detroit and Uber unveils an interesting patent. All that and more in The Daily Crunch for June 11.

1. Here's what Microsoft announced at E3 2018

Microsoft held the first big press event at this week's E3 video game conference, releasing more information about titles like Kingdom Hearts III, Fallout 76 and Halo Infinite — which Xbox head Phil Spector promised would be Master Chief's "greatest adventure to save humanity."

TechCrunch's Brian Heater and Lucas Matney are going to be at E3 for the next few days, so stay tuned for more gaming news.

2. Ford buys historic Detroit train depot to house advanced technology groups

Michigan Central Station long stood as a symbol of Detroit's decline. Now, thanks to Ford, it could represent Detroit's return.

3. Uber applies for patent that would detect drunk passengers

While the patent limits itself to a dry discussion of "user state," it seems that what Uber is really interested in is detecting the difference between users of sound mind and those who are under the influence.

4. Notorious Kindle Unlimited abuser has been booted from the bookstore

According to The Digital Reader, Chance Carter (at least that's what they called themselves) would create large novels that were basically just hack jobs written by Fiverr writers. On the first page, you'd find an instruction to flip to the last page for a free giveaway of Tiffany jewelry.

5. Xiaomi posts $1.1B quarterly loss ahead of much-anticipated IPO

Xiaomi's IPO is set to be the largest offering raise since Alibaba went public in the U.S. in 2014. That prospect got a boost with news of positive financial growth, despite a loss incurred by one-off payments.

6. Workday acquires financial modelling startup Adaptive Insights for $1.55B

The deal will further Workday's attempt to become the go-to platform for all for back-office services. The company plans to integrate Adaptive Insights' tools for business planning and financial modeling into its existing platform.

7. Podcasts are like a newsletter for your ears

Okay, the metaphor's a little shaky, but my point is, you should check out this Equity episode about Microsoft buying GitHub and the latest segment of CTRl+T, which covers everything from Apple's big developer conference to Kanye West's remarks about slavery.
