| Nearly a year after Verizon's acquisition of Yahoo was first announced, the deal has closed. Also, Tim Cook offers a few details about Apple's self-driving car project. Verizon closes $4.5B acquisition of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer resigns [Memo] It's official: TechCrunch's parent company Verizon has finally closed its acquisition of Yahoo. As a result, it will be rolling up AOL and Yahoo into a single subsidiary called Oath (yes, that's the real name). This marks the end of Marissa Mayer's tenure as CEO of Yahoo — as expected, Mayer has resigned. In a statement, Verizon said, "Given the inherent changes to Marissa Mayer's role with Yahoo resulting from the closing of the transaction, Mayer has chosen to resign from Yahoo." 
2. Tim Cook says Apple's car project is 'the mother of all AI projects' In a very brief interview with Bloomberg, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the company has been working on an Apple car. Cook described Apple's car project as the combination of three different factors — self-driving cars, electric vehicles and ride-sharing. 3. Apple undercuts Facebook in the augmented reality platform war Apple also recently unveiled ARKit, allowing developers to easily take advantage of the iPhone's camera to overlay augmented reality content in their own apps. TechCrunch's Josh Constine looks at how Apple has leveraged its giant mobile platform for a lead in the AR race. 4. Baby food delivery service Yumi launches with $4.1M in seed funding Yumi, the Los Angeles-based baby food delivery service co-created by Angela Sutherland and former TechCrunch and Wall Street Journal reporter Evelyn Rusli, is finally open for business. Like grownup meal delivery services, parents simply select a plan on the Yumi website, a chef prepares the food in the Yumi kitchen and then the meals arrive in an insulated container, along with ice packs to keep them fresh. 5. Man in Pakistan sentenced to death for blasphemous Facebook comments The Guardian reports that Taimoor Raza was founded guilty of insulting the prophet Muhammad by a court this week. His charge relates to comments allegedly made during a debate about Islam with another user on Facebook — a user who subsequently turned out to be an undercover counter-terrorism agent. 6.
