Tesla prices out its revolutionary truck, Lyft goes back to the well for more cash and more in The Daily Crunch for November 24, 2017. You're not reading this though – you're buying something somewhere for Black Friday. 1. Tesla's unbelievable electric truck has an unbelievable price The Tesla Semi promises some amazing things with regards to its battery life, range and charging, but it's also now been officially priced, starting at just $150,000 – which may sound like a lot but actually compares well to diesel truck prices. If Tesla can ship this vehicle starting at this price, in volume, it's going to be a strong offering for any logistics or shipping companies hoping to save money over the lifetime of their trucks. But Tesla has to make and ship these first, and that's where it's encountered trouble recently. 2. Lyft is raising $500 million more Not content with its recent $1 billion raise, Lyft is adding $500 million more to its most recent round, the company revealed via a regulatory filing. It costs a lot of money to expand internationally and roll out an autonomous vehicle testing program, it turns out. 3. Twitter tests new way to show engagement Twitter is testing a simpler, clearer way of showing engagement for tweets in embed. The experiment displays how many people are "talking about" a tweet in total, combining the RT and replies metrics and translating it for a broader audience who might not be that familiar with Twitter. 4. Motorola's modular Alexa smart speaker is weird The modular Moto Z experiment continues, with a mod that incorporates an Alex smart speaker for $150. Which is more expensive than an actual Echo. For something that's worse. 5. Ecommerce sales on Thanksgiving pass $2.8 billion Holiday shopping season is off to a big start with $2.87 billion in sales for Thanksgiving, which is up almost 20 percent compared to 2016. I feel like I"ve actually seen a ton of good deals this year, so maybe that has something to do with it. 6. Podcast Friday! It's Black Friday and a lot of people are off work, which means it's the perfect time to kick back and listen to some podcasts from TechCrunch. Equity covers the Stitch Fix IPO, and on Original Content, we're getting gritty with The Punisher on Netflix. |
