Inside's Uber airship dreams. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 12 2018 By Darrell Etherington

Uber's flying car plan isn't just a publicity stunt – no really. Also, YouTube brings out the stick and more in The Daily Crunch for February 12, 2018.

1. Inside Uber's flying car plan

Megan wanted to know, as do we all, whether Uber's plans around flying cars are viable and in earnest. She talked to Uber's policy lead on AVs and flying urban transit to figure it out.

Flying cars, it turns out, aren't just aspirational marketing for Uber. Though there's some of that going on, for sure.

2. YouTube is going to punish bad actors on the platform

YouTube is going to make it harder to find videos from people who are shitty, and it'll also make it harder for those crap-bags to make money on the platform. Good.

3. Galaxy S9 preview

It's almost time for Samsung's big day, and the latest Galaxy S-series phones. We know quite a bit about them, and they sound nice.

4. Instagram wants to warn you when people screenshot stories

Instagram is testing a screenshot notification feature for Stories, similar to what Snapchat does with its own. It's just a test, but it seems like a good idea.

5. Axel Springer backed Magic Leap, too

German publishing giant Axel Springer has invested in Magic Leap, the near-mythical AR company with nary a product to be seen. Everyone's doing it, but why Axel? Maybe just because it's fashionable.

6. Uber institutes mandatory driving breaks

Uber's app will now enforce a mandatory six-hour break for every 12 hours of driving without a substantial stop between, with an update rolling out to drivers in the U.S. over the next few weeks. It's good to fight drowsy driving with a hard limit.

7. Apple backs OLED display maker

Apple has joined with LG and Valve to back a company making OLEDs. These likely aren't for iPhones, however, since the company specifically targets AR and VR use cases.
