Mark Zuckerberg fires back at Tim Cook. It's The Daily Crunch.

THE DAILY CRUNCH
MONDAY, APRIL 2 2018 By Anthony Ha

Mark Zuckerberg talks about Facebook's troubles in a wide-ranging interview, YouTube introduces shorter ads and Tesla stocks take a dive. All that and more in The Daily Crunch for April 2, 2018. And hey, we survived April Fool's Day!

1. Zuckerberg fires back at Tim Cook, opens up about fake news

In an interview with Vox's Ezra Klein, the Facebook CEO disputed the claim that the advertising model is at the root of the social network's privacy problems. In fact, Zuckerberg described Cook's argument as "extremely glib."

Overall, his comments were heavier on high-minded statements than concrete promises for change, but it does sound like Zuckerberg's thinking seriously about these issues. He might be getting some extra incentive after watching Facebook's stock plummet in recent weeks.

2. YouTube launches a shorter, skippable ad format

Now, advertisers will have the option to build ads as short as 6 seconds, though most of the ads will probably remain a little bit longer.

3. Alibaba to buy all remaining outstanding shares of local delivery service Ele.me

Best-known for food deliveries, Ele.me claims to be China's biggest online delivery and local services platform. Alibaba said the deal values Ele.me at $9.5 billion.

4. Tesla is now worth less than Ford

Elon Musk seems to be taking the news well.

5. Atlassian's two-year cloud journey

When Atlassian CTO Sri Viswanath came on board in 2016, he made the decision to move the company's biggest applications to AWS. We take a closer look at that transition.

6. Over-the-top-only U.S. households nearly tripled since 2013, impacting TV ad dollars

Cord cutters' slice of the pie is still fairly small – there are 14.1 million over-the-top only households, which is just 11 percent of all U.S. TV households.

7. So long, Darrell

Darrell Etherington is leaving us, so I'll be doing my best to keep the daily newsletter going without him. If you've got suggestions on how to make it better, feel free to shoot me an email at anthonyha@techcrunch.com. In the meantime, get one last taste of the classic Etherington curmudgeonliness by listening to the latest episode of the Original Content podcast.
